A Contemporary Fortress in the Heart of Modena

Vantique stands on Via Castelmaraldo, one of the most authentic, private streets in Modena's historic centre. The street takes its name from the Castrum Maraldi, a medieval fortification built in the 12th century to protect the city. That fortress no longer stands, but its meaning lives on. Where the Castrum Maraldi once protected Modena from outside threats, Vantique now protects something even more precious: the time, freedom, wellbeing and privacy of its guests. A short walk from the liveliest squares, the most celebrated restaurants and the excellence that made Modena famous around the world, Vantique holds a completely different dimension: private, quiet, discreet.

Over Eight Centuries of History

The area where Vantique stands has been part of Modena since medieval times, within the ancient city walls built in the 9th century. Over the centuries the neighbourhood shifted from a defensive outpost to a refined residential quarter, home to some of the city's most prestigious houses. The building that now houses Vantique was originally a stable, a granary and a service structure for the grand noble residences facing Via Emilia. The old arched entrances once used for horses and carriages, the historic masonry and the original vaulted ceilings still tell centuries of Modenese life today. For today's traveller, it means staying in a place that is authentic, not rebuilt.

The Restoration

The entire building underwent a careful conservation restoration, guided by one clear philosophy: preserve the historic authenticity of the place while integrating the fullest contemporary comfort. The historic vaulted ceilings, the original wooden beams, the terracotta steps worn smooth by generations, the warm tones of Modenese tradition: every element was recovered and brought back to life, nothing was artificially recreated. The result is a place that carries the charm of history without giving up advanced technology, sound insulation, energy efficiency and contemporary-level comfort.
